What type of glass is best for a table top?
It depends on whether the glass covers an existing surface or acts as the main top, as well as its size, supports and use. Toughened safety glass is often considered, but the full design must be assessed.
How thick should a glass table top be?
There is no single correct thickness. Span, size, support position, expected loads, edge exposure and glass type all affect the specification. A glazier should review the design before glass is ordered.
Can you make glass for an unusual table shape?
Many custom shapes are possible using accurate dimensions or a physical template. Curves, clipped corners, holes and complex shapes must be confirmed before manufacture.
Can glass sit directly over a timber table?
Often, but suitable clear pads or spacers may be recommended to reduce movement and direct contact. The timber finish, trapped moisture, heat and edge overhang should also be considered.
How much does a custom glass table top cost?
Cost depends on size, thickness, glass type, shape, edge finish, cut-outs, access and whether a template or fitting is required. The final specification is needed before an accurate quote can be prepared.
Can scratched or chipped table glass be repaired?
Very light surface marks may be assessed, but deep scratches, edge chips and cracks can affect safety and appearance. Replacement is often more practical, especially when damage reaches an exposed edge.
